Mary Grigoriadis is one of the major founding forces behind the Pattern&Decorative movement that flourished in the late 1970s and early 1980s. As a response/critique of the High Minimalism, Conceptualism and academic formalism that had reigned supreme in the New York art world for over a decade, the P&D painters employed themes that had previously been considered "women's work", like fabric design, embroidery, quilting and other domestic practices. Melding these models with painterly abstraction and kitsch, they revived one major component of painting that received worldwide attention. This exhibition features major works for the 70s and 80s as well as a selection of drawings.
