As a leading figure in the "Pictures Generation" group, the influence of Jack Goldstein is considerable. This exhibition focuses on paintings from the decade of 1976-86 and also includes a film and installation piece "Burning Window" (1977). After a meteoric rise within the New York art world, due to substance abuse and personal problems, Goldstein just as quickly faded from prominence. Although dead (by his own hand in 2003) before the publication of "Jack Goldstein and the Cal Arts Mafia" by Richard Hertz, this book, again brought attention to the artist's work and began a rediscovery that this show will no doubt supplement.
