Kenny Scharf may be an alien invader from the "Donut Planet" but , with "Kolors" he presents works incorporating the imagery and iconography he's cultivated for the last 30 some years. Deriving much of his aesthetic direction from watching way too much TV during the early 60s, Scharf has honed his Hanna-Barbera characters into his own private world of psychedelic-Surrealism. Known as the originator of the moniker for the FUN Gallery, the most influential East Village venue, Scharf along with other FUNsters, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat has become synonymous with the over indulgence and ultimate tragedy that was the 1980s. This show themed on "Kolor" is centered on three large sculptures, that are a major departure of the artist into three dimensions, and a suite of paintings limited to a single color.
