James Kalm popped in to view this show, and was motivated to do a "Rough Cut Run-through". CPLY (William N. Copley, January 24, 1919 -- May 7, 1996) was an enigmatic artist who began his association with the Surrealists as a young art dealer and patron in Los Angeles. After years as an artist and low profile philanthropist, CPLY began to receive high level critical and curatorial attention. He was one of the highlighted artists in Marcia Tucker's ground breaking "Bad Painting" show at the New Museum in 1978. This show features CPLY's work that reflect his interest in native subject mater, while maintaining his sardonic wit.
