In the seven years that James Kalm has been producing video art tours, he has visited and recorded several wonderful programs at P.S.1, with collegial support . However, now that P.S.1 has become a subsidiary of the Museum of Modern Art, it seems it's commitment to local artists is being suppressed in favor of MoMA's ever expanding hegemonic artistic control.
During a recent visit to view the historic "Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt: Tender Love Among the Junk" exhibition, your reporter was, for the first time, denied photo access to the exhibit. Never one to let bureaucratic roadblocks stifle the documentation of New York's creative community, he goes on the "down-low" and, despite technical problems, recorded a walkthrough tour.
