The artist Rick Briggs lives his life as a balancing act. His work as a sought-after commercial house painter and restoration contractor supports his artistic practice. Meanwhile his commitment to abstraction has recently been comingled with an interest in figurative graphic representation and a pathos of narrative that the "Painter Man" derives from his own life. Briggs uses this seeming disparity of intent to create images that carry a poignant story, yet are distilled to a near abstract austerity.
