With "Heilstätten", Neo Rauch, the stalwart leader of what has become known as the Leipzig School presents a new selection of paintings. Rauch pioneered the first new art movement of the new millennium with "Post Socialist
Art". While some pieces are massive in size, his smaller works loose none of their sensitivity and demonstrate that Rauch is a very accomplished technician. Melding influences from the obscure Romantic tradition of German painting with inexplicable fragments of Surrealist and Classic Modernist art history, the works present narratives of contrasting direction. This is compounded by his use of disorientating graphic tropes like multiple warped perspectives, incongruous scale and a telescoping of time as manifest by the figures costumes. Also viewed is a major female bronze sculpture.
