James Kalm trips to Midtowns Museum of Modern Art to witness the North American debut of Marlene Dumas Measuring Your Own Grave. Dumas (1953) have received increasing attention for her heartfelt and sensitive renditions of the pageantry of the human condition. In 2005, one of her paintings was auctioned at Christies London for $3.34 million, establishing her as the highest priced living female artist. Between the prices, and Dumas racially charged erotic and off kilter depictions, she has become a favorite target of comments within the cultural media.
